Driver Dead After Gasoline Tanker Explodes in Crash on 287

MAHWAH, NJ – The driver of a gasoline tanker truck was killed in a dramatic explosion on Route 287 in Mahwah this morning, according to the Daily Voice.

The crash happened around 6:45 a.m. near Route 17 and the New York State Thruway, when the tanker truck crashed and overturned, causing multiple explosions. The truck was completely engulfed in flames as a result, with thick columns of smoke.

The driver, a 59-year-old from Paterson, was pronounced dead after the crash.

A firefighter also suffered what are believed to be non-critical injuries.
