PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ – A teenage carjacker ended a police chase with a crash all while a 5-year-old child was in the backseat in Paterson on Monday.
According to Daily Voice, the 5-year-old was left inside a running 2010 Nissan Altima in front of a restaurant on Union Avenue. A 17-year-old then took off with the car.
Officers fanned out to search the area after the carjacking and spotting the vehicle behind a public school in about 20 minutes. The driver sped off after seeing the officer, heading down West Broadway.
The teen crashed the car into a parked Dodge Caravan trying to turn onto White Street. He then put the car in reverse, backed into the police vehicle, before jumping out to run away on foot.
He was immediately apprehended.
The child was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Thankfully, he was uninjured.
