Chicken scattered on Bergen County road after truck rolls

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ – A tractor-trailer overturned on freeway onramp in Franklin Lakes, spilling its load of frozen chicken wings on Monday morning.

According to New Jersey 101.5, the truck was on the onramp from northbound Route 208 or northbound 287 when it overturned at about 9 a.m.

The driver was trapped in the truck cab. Emergency crews extracted him through the passenger side of the vehicle and transported him to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The truck was transporting chicken from Menella’s Poultry Company, based in Paterson, which supplies chicken to Popeyes and Church’s Fried Chicken, among other restaurants.

Cleanup from the accident including using a Bobcat loader to put the chicken in a dumpster.
