MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ – An 87-year-old man was trying to cross Route 38 in Hazlet Township when he was struck and killed by a car on Sunday morning.
According to NJ.com, the elderly Hazlet resident was making his way across the southbound lanes of Route 38 near Bedle Road when he struck at about 10:30 a.m.
When emergency personnel responded, the victim was not breathing. He was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital despite life-saving efforts.
There is not a crosswalk in the vicinity of the scene.
An investigation closed the area of the accident for about three hours on Sunday and it still ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to bring forward what they know.
