74-year-old man killed, his wife severely injured in Nutley home fire

NUTLEY, NJ – A house fire in Essex County last night resulted in the death of a 74-year-old man and the serious injury of his wife, according to the Essex Daily Voice.

The fire began at a single-family home on Myrtle Avenue in Nutley at about 6 p.m., with multiple agencies responding.

74-year-old Joseph Collar was pronounced dead just before 7 p.m.

His wife, who was not publicly identified, was taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition.

The fire caused heavy damage to the wood-frame home, with extensive damage caused to the garage area.

Authorities are investigating the accident at this time.
