LOWER TOWNSHIP, NJ (CAPE MAY COUNTY) – A 3-year-old toddler died after falling into a septic tank at a campground in South Jersey last night, according to NJ.com.
The accident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. in Lower Township in Cape May County, at the Sun Outdoors Cape May campground, which is located at 699 Route 9.
A 3-year-old girl had fallen into a sewage septic tank and had been pulled from there by the time officials arrived.
The child was taken to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
An autopsy was performed this morning, though the results were not immediately available.
Authorities do not believe that the accident was a result of foul play.
Representatives of the campground are reportedly cooperating with the investigation.
