BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Three people were injured Saturday morning due to a series of wrecks on Route 3 in southeast Rutherford, according to Daily Voice.
The events unfolded on the eastbound highway at the Berry’s Creek Canal bridge, at around 9:30 p.m.
East Rutherford Police said a 2020 GMC had come to a stop behind a disabled 2017 Acura RDX at the bridge when it was rear-ended by a 2033 Honda Accord. The impact of that crash sent the GMC into the Acura.
As officers responded to those involved occupants, a driver in a 2010 Toyota Prius maneuvered to avoid striking the scene when that vehicle was hit from behind. Authorities said the driver of the Prius was not injured, but the striking driver in the unknown vehicle fled the scene.
Though the Prius did not hit any of the other vehicles, three people from the prior crash were hospitalized.
The Acura driver, a 62-year-old Carteret woman, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for “neck and leg pain.”
The GMC driver, a 41-year-old Bayonne woman, suffered leg pain and was taken to Hudson Regional Hospital in Secaucus. First responders also took her passenger, a 36-year-old man, to Hudson Regional for a precautionary evaluation.
At this time, no summonses or charges have been reported. Authorities continue to investigate.
