The crash happened in West Windsor, near Carnegie Center Boulevard, at about 3:40 a.m., when a Volkswagen Passat went off the side of the road, then collided with a telephone pole, a road sign, and then another pole. The disabled vehicle then went back onto the roadway, where it was struck by a Chevrolet Cruze.
A 23-year-old man riding in the front seat of the Passat was trapped within the wreckage. After being extricated, he was taken to the hospital with severe injuries, which he later succumbed to and was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Passat and two of their passengers were taken to the same hospital after suffering severe injuries.
The driver of the Cruze sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
