FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ (SOMERSET COUNTY) – A 2-year-old boy was killed after he was struck by the driver backing out of a driveway in Somerset County this morning, according to NJ.com.
The accident happened in Franklin Township, on Bennetts Lane, at about 8:45 a.m., as a 60-year-old man from Somerset was backing a pickup truck out of a private residence.
He then collided with a 2-year-old boy near the driveway.
The child received resuscitative efforts by EMS staff and was taken to a trauma center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver was not reported as hurt and has not been charged with a crime at this point.
The accident remains under investigation by Franklin Township Police and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
