OCEAN COUNTY, NJ – A 19-year-old driver was practicing deep breathing just before injuring three people in an accident in Toms River on Saturday afternoon.
According to NJ.com, the Brick man was headed south Hooper Avenue while practicing “deep-breathing techniques.” He told police he may have blacked out just before his vehicle crashed into an oncoming car near the intersection with Washington Street at about 4:55 p.m.
The backseat passenger in the second vehicle was unbuckled. They were airlifted from the scene with a serious head injury. The two other occupants were also injured and taken to an area hospital.
The 19-year-old showed no signs of being impaired or of using his cellphone. He has not been charged.
An investigation is ongoing.
