1 seriously injured in fiery crash on US-1/9 near SW Linden

UNION COUNTY, NJ — One person was hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after a fiery collision on U.S. Highway 1/9 near southwest Linden, reports local media.

Linden police and firefighters responded to the scene on the southbound lanes near Avenue C just before 2:45 p.m.

The circumstances behind the accident were unclear, but the vehicle became engulfed in flames moments later, and a pole was knocked onto the roadway.

First responders confirmed one person was transported to Newark’s University Hospital with serious injuries. The patient was last listed in stable condition.

In the immediate aftermath of the wreck, Linden Police shut down all southbound lanes as firefighters and and Union County Hazmat Crews worked to control the flames using foam.

An investigation into the cause of the wreck remains underway.
