1 dead, 1 injured after crashing motorcycle into tanker truck in Gloucester Twp

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ – A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger was injured after they crashed into a tanker truck in Gloucester Township early yesterday morning.

According to details from NJ.com, the collision happened on Route 42 southbound near milepost 6.9 at around 3:45 a.m., when a motorcyclist crashed into the back bumper of an oil tanker truck.

The motorcycle flipped, causing both the operator, 47-year-old Bridgeton man James Smith, Jr., and a passenger, a 43-year-old woman from Bridgeton, to be ejected.

Smith was pronounced dead after the crash.

The passenger sustained minor wounds.

The truck driver, who was not immediately identified, was not reported as injured.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash at this time.
