Passaic County Auto Case Ends With $850,000 Settlement During Trial
A Butler woman involved in a rear-end accident received $850,000 in her suit, Antonelli v. Nichols.
Plaintiff Christine Antonelli, 43, received her settlement funds from GEICO, the carrier for defendant Brandon Nichols, on April 1, said Antonelli’s attorney, Edward Capozzi. The case settled on Feb. 8 after six days of trial before Passaic County Superior Court Judge Bruno Mongiardo.
Antonelli was injured on Sept. 23, 2013, as she was traveling north on Greenwood Lake Turnpike in West Milford. Her car was struck from behind by a car driven by Nichols, of West Milford, said Capozzi, of Brach Eichler in Roseland.
As a result of the accident, Antonelli sustained a bulged disc, an annular tear, disc herniation and recess narrowing, Capozzi said.
Antonelli underwent a cervical discectomy, bone grafts and the insertion and removal of pins, and platelet-rich plasma injection. She also was required to use a cervical collar and received four epidural injections, Capozzi said.
GEICO assigned the case to in-house counsel Bryan Kurtzberg, who did not return a telephone call about the case.
